The Sticky Date Pudding at Hungry Jack's is $4.80 and 958 kJ, which makes it one of the lightest desserts on the menu and the only hot one.
That combination is unusual and worth noting. At 958 kJ it carries less than half a Chocolate Sundae at 2,227 kJ, and roughly a third of a Biscoff Storm. A hot pudding sounds heavier than an ice cream and here it is not.
Sticky date pudding is an Australian and British staple, built on dates soaked and blended into the batter rather than added as pieces. The dates do two things: they sweeten the pudding without much added sugar, and they keep it moist for days in a way a plain sponge is not.
Butterscotch sauce is the traditional partner and it is what turns the pudding from good to worth ordering. At Hungry Jack's it is served warm, which matters, since cold butterscotch sets solid.
