The Soft Serve Cone at Hungry Jack's is $2.20 and 790 kJ. It is the cheapest dessert on the menu and one of the cheapest items full stop.
Soft serve is not the same product as ice cream and the difference is air. Soft serve is churned with air as it is dispensed, giving an overrun of around forty percent by volume, which is what makes it light and why it melts so fast. Ice cream is denser and colder. Neither is better; they are different foods.
It is also served considerably warmer than ice cream, around minus four rather than minus eighteen, which is why it is soft. That warmer serving temperature makes the flavour more pronounced, since cold suppresses taste.
At 790 kJ it is about 9% of an adult daily intake, which makes it the lightest thing on the desserts menu by a wide margin. A Chocolate Sundae at 2,227 kJ carries nearly three times as much.
Who it suits: children, anyone who wants something small and sweet after a meal, and anyone building a cheap order. At $2.20 it is the easiest addition on the menu.
