Plant Based Whopper features a patty made from plants, flame-grilled to give the irresistible smoky, BBQ flavour just like our classic Whopper. Loaded with crisp fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes, onion, pickles, mayo and tomato sauce on a toasted sesame seed bun. Not suitable for vegans.
The Plant Based Whopper is $12.35 and 2,317 kJ. It is priced identically to the beef Whopper at $12.35, which is unusual and worth noting on its own, since most chains charge a premium for the plant based version.
The patty is made from plants and flame grilled on the same open flame the beef goes over, which is where the smoky note comes from. That is the whole design brief: the point is not to taste like a health food, it is to taste like a Whopper. Everything else is unchanged from the original build, with crisp lettuce, ripe tomato, onion, pickles, mayonnaise and tomato sauce on a toasted sesame seed bun.
On the numbers it lands close to the beef version and slightly under it on some measures. Energy is 2,317 kJ against 2,437 kJ, protein is 24.6g against 28.1g, and fat is 40.7g against 45.2g. Sodium goes the other way, up to 1,154mg from 846mg, which is the single biggest difference between the two and it comes from the seasoning in the patty.
The important caveat is cooking. The patty goes over the same flame grill as the beef, so this is a vegetarian option rather than a strictly vegan one, and Hungry Jack's does not claim otherwise. Anyone avoiding animal products entirely should treat shared cooking surfaces as the deciding factor.
Who it suits: vegetarians who want the actual Whopper experience rather than a salad in a bun, and anyone cutting back on beef without wanting to notice. At the same price as the beef version there is no financial reason not to try it.
Pair it with Small Thick Cut Chips at $2.00, or add cheese with the Plant Based Whopper Cheese at $13.30. The full vegetarian and vegan menu is here.
One Plant Based Whopper is 27% of the 8,700 kJ average adult daily intake. Figures are per serve as published by Hungry Jack's.

A plant based patty needs more heat and less handling than beef, because there is no fat to render and nothing holding it together but binder. Hard sear, one flip, no pressing. Makes 2 servings.
Serve immediately. Plant based patties firm up as they cool faster than beef does, so this one has a shorter window than the original.

$12.35, exactly the same as the beef Whopper. Hungry Jack's does not charge a premium for the plant based version.
2,317 kJ against 2,437 kJ for the beef version. Protein is 24.6g and sodium is 1,154mg, which is noticeably higher than the beef Whopper's 846mg.
The patty is plant based, but it is flame grilled on the same equipment as the beef. Hungry Jack's treats it as a vegetarian option rather than a certified vegan one, and anyone avoiding animal products entirely should factor in the shared grill.
Closer than most people expect, mainly because it goes over the same open flame. The smoky note in a Whopper comes from the flame grill rather than from the beef itself, so it carries across.
