Plant Based Whopper Cheese features a patty made from plants, flame-grilled to give the irresistible smoky, BBQ flavour just like our classic Whopper. Loaded with cheese, crisp fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes, onion, pickles, mayo and tomato sauce on a toasted sesame seed bun. Not suitable for vegans.
The Plant Based Whopper Cheese is $13.30 and 2,630 kJ. It is the Plant Based Whopper with a slice of melted cheese, priced the same as the beef Whopper Cheese at $13.30.
Cheese does more structural work on a plant patty than on beef. A plant based patty releases less fat as it cooks and holds its shape more firmly, which means the salad above it has less to grip. A melted slice fixes that, binding the build the way it does on the beef version and stopping the tomato sliding on the third bite.
The cheese also softens the seasoning. Plant patties are seasoned harder than beef, because they need to carry flavour that beef gets from fat, and the result can read as salty on its own. Dairy fat mutes that, which is why this version tastes more balanced than the plain plant based Whopper rather than simply richer.
On the numbers, energy goes from 2,317 kJ to 2,630 kJ, protein from 24.6g to 29.6g and sodium from 1,154mg to 1,306mg. Fat reaches 47g, which puts it just above the beef Whopper Cheese at 51g on energy but below it on protein.
The vegan caveat still applies twice over here. The patty shares a flame grill with beef, and the cheese is dairy, so this is a vegetarian item and nothing more than that.
Who it suits: vegetarians who want the full Whopper Cheese experience, and anyone who found the plain plant based version a touch sharp. It is the version most people settle on after trying both.
Pair it with Small Thick Cut Chips at $2.00, or look at the Veggie Whopper Cheese at $13.30 for the vegetable patty version.

Same as the plant based Whopper with one change that matters: the cheese needs help melting. A plant patty gives off less heat than beef, so cover the pan for the last thirty seconds. Makes 2 servings.
Serve immediately with chips. Melted cheese sets fast on a plant patty because there is less residual heat holding it soft.

No. The cheese is dairy and the patty is flame grilled on the same equipment as the beef. This is a vegetarian item rather than a vegan one.
The cheese does two useful things: it binds the build, which a plant patty needs more than beef does, and it softens the harder seasoning plant patties carry. Most people who try both settle on this one.
