About the Hungry Jack's Iced Chocolate

A Jack's Cafe Iced Chocolate is $5.70 and 1,440 kJ. Chocolate with cold milk over ice, no coffee, and it is the caffeine free cold option on the cafe menu.

At 1,440 kJ it carries considerably more than the hot Hot Chocolate at 861 kJ. Cold drinks are built sweeter, because cold suppresses the perception of sweetness, and a cold chocolate drink needs more chocolate syrup to register than a hot one does.

Making iced chocolate properly is harder than hot chocolate. Chocolate powder does not dissolve in cold milk at all, so it has to be made into a syrup with a little hot liquid first. An iced chocolate made by stirring powder into cold milk is grit in a glass.

It works particularly well as a dessert drink after a meal rather than as a drink alongside one, given what it carries.

The Jack's Cafe loyalty card can be redeemed against specialty drinks, which generally covers this.
