A Jack's Cafe Cappuccino is $5.40 and 836 kJ, the heaviest of the three standard milk coffees on the Hungry Jack's menu. Espresso, steamed milk and a thick foam cap, dusted with chocolate.
The energy figure surprises people. At 836 kJ it carries more than a Flat White at 594 kJ and a Latte at 534 kJ, despite holding roughly the same milk. The chocolate dusting accounts for a fair part of the gap.
The foam is the defining feature and it does a job beyond looking right. A thick foam cap insulates the coffee underneath, so a cappuccino stays hot noticeably longer than a flat white does. In a drive thru that is a practical advantage rather than a stylistic one.
Foam also changes the drinking. The first mouthful is mostly air and chocolate, and the coffee arrives underneath it. That is either the appeal or the problem depending on who you ask, and it is why the flat white was invented in the first place.
