How Shake & Win works in the Hungry Jack's app, the 30 second and 30 minute limits, and how to avoid losing a prize.
3 minute read
Shake & Win is the game inside the Hungry Jack's app that awards a prize every day. It is genuinely every day, and you genuinely win something every time. The variable is which prize, not if you get one.
Two timers decide if you keep what you win, and they are shorter than most people realise. Understanding how Shake & Win works comes down to those two numbers and one piece of practical advice that follows from them. The full app page covers the rest of what it does.
This post explains the mechanics, the timing trap most people fall into, and how Shake & Win fits alongside the rest of the Hungry Jack's deals.

Once a prize appears, you have thirty seconds to accept it. That is short enough that reading the screen carefully is the entire skill, and it is why people occasionally lose a prize they wanted by hesitating.
Once accepted, you have thirty minutes to redeem it in a restaurant. This is the timer that actually costs people prizes, and it runs from acceptance rather than from arrival at the counter.
One shake per day. The prize resets daily, so a missed day is simply a missed day rather than something that accumulates.
That thirty minute redemption window is the whole reason for this rule. Shaking on the couch burns the day's prize on a window you will not be in a restaurant for, and there is no way to pause it or claim it later.
Shake in the car park. Shake in the queue. Shake at the drive thru speaker if you like. Anywhere that puts you inside thirty minutes of a counter, which across the 489 restaurants in Australia is most of the country's populated areas.
Prizes are also drawn against the restaurant you have selected in the app, so pick the store you are actually near before shaking rather than after.
Shake & Win sits alongside the app's exclusive deals rather than replacing them. The Medium Coffee at $2.75 against $5.40 at the counter and the Whopper Junior Small Value Meal at $5.90 are separate offers that stand on their own without a shake.
What it does not do is stack. The one voucher per transaction rule covers app prizes too: Hungry Jack's position is that one voucher applies per transaction and it does not combine with other discounts. A Shake & Win prize and a separate voucher in the same order will not both apply.
The exception, as everywhere on this menu, is the Jack's Cafe loyalty coffee, which redeems alongside a voucher. The full voucher rules are here.
For anyone who visits more than occasionally, yes, though the daily prize is not the strongest reason. The app deals are: a coffee at $2.75 is close to half the counter price, and for anyone buying coffee twice a week that alone covers the install.
What the app does not do is make the regular menu cheaper. Hungry Jack's states plainly that pre-ordering prices are exactly the same as counter prices. The value is in the exclusive deals and the daily prize, not in a discount across the board.
The permanent value ranges need no app at all. A Cheeseburger Super Stunner at $7.95 and the Penny Pinchers range are fixed menu prices available to anyone at the counter.
